Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland: Dialysis Introduction

In collaboration with Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland and VR Medical, we created a VR experience for kidney patients.
For patients the news of having to be dialysed can often come as a shock. In most cases they are offered two choices: hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. The first means filtering of the blood through a dialysis machine, for which patients often have to come into the hospital 3-4 times a week. The second means filtering of the blood through the peritoneum, which patients can do at home.
In order to make a choice between the two we created two VR experiences which give a POV introduction to both types of dialyses. This helps patients in making a choice and to make them feel more at ease with the drastic change of their daily lives. Explanatory animations inside the VR experience further help patients understand the procedures ahead.
